DIANA YANEZ is the creator, writer and star of the Off-Broadway hit show that has been playing to sold out houses since 2013, LATINA CHRISTMAS SPECIAL (written and performed with Sandra Valls and Maria Russell, directed by Geoffrey Rivas). This masterful retelling of family antics around the holidays was been chosen as Los Angeles Times "Critic's Choice" in 2015 and every year since. Diana has also appeared Off-Broadway in Margaret Cho's SENSUOUS WOMAN SHOW as well as with Cyndi Lauper, Debbie Harry, and Rosie O'Donnell on the TRUE COLORS TOUR. She is the star of various viral videos including SPANISH FOR YOUR NANNY, LET ME BORROW THAT TOP (with Liam Sullivan) and MY PUSS (with Margaret Cho) - together these videos represent over 30 million views!. Her first one-woman show, VIVA LA EVOLUCIÓN! won the New York Int'l Fringe Festival OVERALL EXCELLENCE AWARD FOR SOLO SHOW. She has appeared on TV shows including CRIMINAL MINDS, THE SHIELD, BOSTON LEGAL, and many more. A national-TV-commercial diva (State Farm, Verizon, Home Depot, etc.), she’s often cast as the friendly Latina mom or stern nurse (same thing, basically). An out stand-up comic and professional improv performer, she has performed at The Groundlings, The Improv, The Comedy Store and many others. Her Improv groups include THE GAY MAFIA, COMEDY SMASH, and QUEER ON YOUR FEET.
Diana hails from Miami, Florida (the "Other Cuba") and is first generation Cuban-American. She studied Fine Art in Berlin, Germany and is fluent in three languages: English, Spanish and German. A huge fan of the likes of Lucille Ball, Madelein Kahn, Carol Burnett, Gilda Radner, Lily Tomlin and others of the same ilk, Diana has a contagious style of physical humor and sharp wit. A writer and filmmaker as well, she has a dynamic arsenal of art expressed in a multitude of media. A passionate storyteller and performer, Diana creates her pieces with the intention of shedding light on the universal truths of adulthood, childhood, and family, regardless of one's color, heritage or sexual orientation.
